Frequently asked questions about Dance Classics UK live
No — Dance Classics UK broadcasts over the internet only, so there is no frequency to find on a set. That is a deliberate trade: an online station skips the cost of a broadcast licence and reaches the whole country from day one, but it needs a connection at the listener's end. Press play above and it runs in the browser.
Because digital radio made it possible. Once DAB and streaming removed the scarcity of frequencies, broadcasters could split a general audience into single decades, and it turned out a great many people wanted exactly one decade rather than a mix.
Stations in this format usually run mixed sets rather than three-minute singles, because the music is built to be beat-matched and a set needs room to develop. That length is exactly what commercial daytime radio cannot accommodate, and it is why so much dance radio in Britain moved online.
National. Dance Classics UK is not tied to one transmitter area, which is what allows a station to build a format around a genre rather than a place.
Not especially — around 30 to 60 MB an hour. On a capped tariff a full working day of Dance Classics UK would be noticeable, so wi-fi is worth using where you can.
