About talkSPORT live

Technical details, frequency and station information

talkSPORT is the UK's biggest commercial sports radio station, reaching around 3.5 million listeners a week in October 2024, according to RAJAR. It combines live commentary with rolling sports talk and phone-ins, 24 hours a day. It began on 14 February 1995 as Talk Radio UK, a national speech station on medium wave, and relaunched as talkSPORT on 17 January 2000. For some years it kept a mix of sport and general talk; since April 2012 the schedule has been sport only. It has been owned by News UK since 2016, when News Corp bought its parent company, Wireless Group. The station's business rests on rights. talkSPORT is an official broadcaster of the Premier League, the English Football League, the FA Cup and the Champions League, and also covers international cricket tours, rugby and boxing. Its breakfast show, Sports Breakfast, sets the tone for the day's talk, and the phone-ins give fans a national platform that few other stations offer. Its medium wave heritage is still part of the sound: talkSPORT broadcasts on 1053 and 1089 kHz across most of the country, as well as on DAB+ on the Digital One multiplex, Freeview, Sky and Virgin Media. A sister station, talkSPORT 2, launched in March 2016 to carry extra commentary. The stream on this page is talkSPORT Global, the station's international feed.
