About Boom Radio UK live
Technical details, frequency and station information
Boom Radio is a British national station launched in 2021 and aimed specifically at the baby boomer generation, broadcasting on DAB and online.
Its founding argument was blunt and turned out to be correct: British radio had spent years chasing younger listeners while the generation that grew up with pirate radio and the birth of pop was being served by stations that had drifted away from them. Boom was set up by industry veterans to address that directly, playing music from the 1960s and 1970s with presenters familiar to the same audience.
It launched in the middle of a pandemic with a small team and no major group behind it, which in an industry dominated by two large owners made it an outlier. Its audience grew faster than most forecasts, and it has since been cited as evidence that the consolidation of British radio left real gaps rather than efficiently covering the market.
The station is a useful counter-example to the assumption that specialist national radio requires a large owner. Digital broadcasting lowered the entry cost enough that a well-identified audience can now support an independent national service.

Frequently asked questions about Boom Radio UK live
Boom Radio UK has no place on the dial. It is one of the many British stations that launched as a stream rather than applying to Ofcom for a frequency, which is why specialist formats like this one exist at all — the audience for them is spread too thin for local FM. It plays here with nothing to install.
Boom Radio UK keeps a mixed schedule rather than committing to a single genre, which is the older model of radio: one station serving a whole audience through the day rather than one slice of it. It broadcasts by stream, so it reaches listeners anywhere.
Yes. The stream is open and there is nothing to configure, so Boom Radio UK plays the same from anywhere. The only thing to watch is the time difference if you are following a particular programme.
Either a brief drop in your connection or a restart at the station's end. If other stations on this site play normally and only Boom Radio UK does not, the source feed is the likely cause.
Free, with no subscription and no paid tier. British radio is funded either by advertising or, in the BBC's case, by the licence fee — either way, listening costs the listener nothing.
