Heart 90s live

Heart 90s is Global's national station for 1990s music: Britpop, Eurodance, boy bands and girl groups, and the last years of the CD single before downloads changed the music industry. The decade produced an enormous number of hit singles, which lets the station run for hours without repeating itself or reaching for album tracks nobody remembers. It launched on 29 August 2019, and the first song it played was "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls. It was able to launch because, the day before, Heart 80s switched from mono DAB to stereo DAB+, freeing up space on the national multiplex. The weekday breakfast show is presented live by Kevin Hughes. Outside those hours the station runs as a continuous playlist with short links and no local news or phone-ins — made for listening while doing something else. Heart 90s sits between Heart 80s, which trades on nostalgia, and Heart 00s, whose audience is younger. For many listeners the 90s are the music they grew up with; for others they are recent history, heard for the first time through their parents or streaming playlists.
